GI Pedagogy: An innovative model using geoinformation for teaching about sustainability

Direction: María Luisa de Lázaro Torres
Coordination: Miguel Ángel Puertas Aguilar
Proponen: Departamento de Geografía and GI-Pedagogy: Innovative Pedagogies for Teaching with Geoinformation

The increasing amount of freely-available geoinformation and official curricular demands impose the need to integrate geotechnologies into secondary school teaching. The use of GIS in an innovative pedagogical way to support Powerful Geographical Thinking, also meets the needs of the Sustainable Development Goals. By examining examples of good practice we will explore a model that explores the benefits as well as barriers that exist when using GIS in secondary school classrooms. Suggestions on how to overcome these obstacles will be provided.

The course will present the ERASMUS+ GI-Pedagogy outputs such as the  Innovative Pedagogical Model for Teaching using GIS, a resource toolkit for teachers, lesson plan examples (vignettes). The training will introduce the MOOC that will be launched, related pedagogical strategies, useful learning resources and best practices. Participants will be supported to create their own learning materials based on the theoretical inputs.
